The Pike School is seeking a Lower School (Pre-K to Grade 4) Spanish Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will have extensive elementary teaching experience coupled with native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. The Pike School culture embraces lifelong learning, which includes constant reflection on and evaluation of practices, materials, and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will approach teaching and learning with student needs in mind, be on the forefront of best practices in world language education and research, and serve as a leader within the community.

Collaboration and effective communication are essential skills for this position, as are a sense of humor and joy for working with students in this age group and for all of the subject matter included in the Lower School Spanish curriculum.

 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Designing, planning, and implementing Spanish instruction for students in Lower School (Pre-K to Grade 4) 
  • Assessing, documenting, and communicating effectively with colleagues and families about student growth and development 
  • Partnering with administrators, learning specialists, counselors, and teachers in support of the student learning experience 
  • Adapting existing curriculum to meet needs of current students and their schedule; curriculum/program development and experience creating interdisciplinary connections with grade level content preferred
  • Flexibly utilizing second-language acquisition pedagogy (i.e., TPR, storytelling, songs, games, skits, etc.)
  • Collaborating with the Upper School World Language Department 

 

Desired Qualities and Qualifications: 

  • Strong elementary teaching experience (Pre-K to Grade 4)
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
  • A passion for working with students in this age group and a record of outstanding teaching as well as thoughtful innovation moderated by a skillful and sensitive approach to change 
  • Commitment to professional growth, a PLT model for collaboration, and Pike’s values of equity and justice 
  • Experience with technology and its implementation in elementary Spanish classrooms
  • A growth mindset and the ability to develop positive working relationships with all constituencies, including students, parents, faculty, and administration.
  • High emotional intelligence and sensitivity to organizational dynamics; exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Desire to work in a dynamic independent school as a team player, eagerly assuming many roles, and devoting the time required to model excellence in job performance.
